VAN WERT, Ohio - Ada L. Stemen, 94, of Van Wert, died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Vancrest Healthcare Center, Van Wert.
She was born June 14, 1917, in Van Wert, to the late Josephine (Harbarger) Bagley and John S. Bagley. Her husband, Doyt E. Stemen, died Nov. 22, 1974. They were married July 19, 1940.
Survivors include her children: Susan Lichtle of Van Wert and John (Vonnie) Stemen of North East, Md., four grandchildren: Michael (Amanda) Lichtle and Michelle Lichtle, both of Van Wert, Adel Stemen of New Jersey, and Cori Stemen of Chicago, Ill., and two great-grandchildren: Nathan and Emily Lichtle.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Ernest, Fenton, John, Gern, Clyde, Floyd and Forrest Bagley, and a sister: Edith Childers.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Van Wert. She was also a member of United Methodist Women and had been a Camp Fire leader years ago. She was an active participant in the Van Wert American Red Cross Fitness Program and attained a milestone of swimming 2,450 miles.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 6 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert County Special Olympics.
