Albert Eugene Behm "Gene", 90, of Celina, Ohio, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 5:10 a.m. at Van Wert Manor, Van Wert, Ohio, where he had been a patient. He was born in Mercer County, Celina, Ohio, on July 23, 1923, the son of Albert Elsworth and Marie P. (Stephenson) Behm. On December 31, 1950, he married Verna G. Pifer, and she survives. Gene was a life-long farmer and was employed as a Chevrolet mechanic for 50 years, working first at Kerns Chevrolet in Celina, and then at Riley Chevrolet in Rockford. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in England during WWII. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God, Celina, a Life member of the Celina VFW, and had been a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. He so much enjoyed socializing with all his friends, traveling throughout the United States, and fishing on Rice Lake in Canada. Surviving in addition to his wife, Verna, are three daughters: Donna (Carl) Pond, of Rockford, Debra (Jim) Gibson, also of Rockford, and Dana (Gary) Linn, of Celina. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, One sister-in-law, Lanora Behm, of Celina, also survives. Deceased is his brother, Rex Behm. Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Tim Hollinger officiating, assisted by Pastor Richard VanHorn. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Friends may call the day of the service from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, at which time the service will begin.
