Alfred Germann, Sr.

Alfred P. Germann, Sr., 84, of Convoy, OH, passed away at 1:43 AM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice. He was born December 22, 1933 in Harrison Township, Van Wert County to the late Fredric and Mildred (Germann) Germann.

A 1951 graduate of Wren High School, Al went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea from 1952-1956. On June 16, 1962, he married Carol Schnelle. He was a life member of the Van Wert VFW & the Middle Point Am Vets. He was also member of the Van Wert American Legion and the Van Wert Eagles, where he was a Golden Eagle.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Germann of Convoy, OH; daughter, Carla (Clark) J. King of Van Wert, Ohio son, Alfred P. “Andy” (Tina) Germann Jr. of Van Wert, Ohio; grandchildren: Nicole, Terry, Carrie, Jared, Brittnie, Zach, Zane, Kendall, Cody & Haley; great grandchildren: Alexis, Ashton, Blake, Brie, Kien, Braxyton, Chase, Cammeron, Hoatis, Emma, Carley, Sarenia, Zoey and another one due in July; brothers, Gerald (Dorothy) Germann, and Clifford (Theresa) Germann; sisters, Lora (Larry) Brothers, Hannah (James) Jerome, and Donna (Herb) Gerken; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana K. Lester; grandsons, Joey D. Garwood and Gregg Powell; brothers, Herman Germann & Edwin Germann.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 19, 2018 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, OH with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Convoy IOOF Cemetery, Convoy, OH with military honors rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, January 18, 2018, and again one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
