Alice J. Mantie, 79, of Van Wert, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Van Wert Manor.
She was born May 23, 1934, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Woodrow D. and Margaret (Balliet) Schaffner. On September 13, 1983, she married Thomas E. Mantie, who survives in Van Wert.
Other survivors include two children, Leslie (Terry) Webster of Ohio City and Linda Kay Blue of Van Wert; seven stepchildren, David (Shelly) Madden of Florida, Karen (Gary) French of San Jose, Calif., Debbie (Dan) Davidson of San Jose, Calif., Sharon Brasher of Florida, Jenny (Eddie) Byrd of Pink Hill, N.C., Charles (Nancy) Mantie of Pink Hill, N.C., and Richard (Rita) Mantie of Kenansville, N.C.; two brothers, Robert (Sue) Schaffner of McCammon, Idaho, and Dennis (Pat) Schaffner of Defiance; a sister-in-law, Wanda Schaffner of Toledo; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A brother, William Schaffner, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Adam Borsay officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, at the funeral home.
