Andrew Darras

VAN WERT, Ohio - Andrew Leon Darras, 91, of Van Wert, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born July 31, 1922, in Vladsloo-West Vlaandren, Belgium, Europe, to the late Mary (Garman) Darras and Charles Darras.

His wife, Barbara (Jones) Darras, died June 15, 2000. They were married in September of 1966.

Survivors include children: Michael (Helen) Darras and Charles (Nancy) Darras, both of Van Wert; brother: Richard (Suzie) Darras of Monroeville, Ind.; sister: Dorothy Vorndran of Auburn, Ind.; grandchildren: Andrew (Lora) Darras and Amy (Dave) Hawkins, both of Celina, Ohio, Michelle (Keith) Prichard of Rockford, Ohio, Brian Mihm, Nicholas Mihm, Tony Willingham and Sandra (Tim) Adams, all of Van Wert, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Ronald Darras, and two sisters: Mary Zuber and Clara Louagie.

He retired Continental Can Company, Van Wert. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. He was a United States Navy veteran of WW II and a member of Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W. posts.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Stan Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert.

Preferred memorial is St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
