HAVILAND, Ohio - Barry Mark Shumaker, 63, Haviland, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Van Wert Manor, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born April 30, 1948, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Tulvina M. (Knittle) Shumaker and Dale A. Shumaker.
Survivors include a daughter: Abby (Rickey) Rivas of Haviland, one brother: Danny Shumaker of Middle Point, Ohio, and a half brother: Lanny (Donna) Lemon of Middle Point, Ohio.
He retired from Chrysler Amplex, Van Wert. Barry had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a good father to his beautiful daughter, Abby Lane Shumaker. Barry loved all animals, especially his cats, Katie and Tuffy. Barry was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and promoted Vietnam War M.I.A.'s.
Barry always worked at leaving his family something. He never once complained about his sickness and was always kind to people. He loved defending his country. Barry supported American veterans and always helped others in need. He truly lived and died the life of an honorable Marine. He was a life member of the Delphos V.F.W.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Military services will be held immediately following services at the funeral home.
Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Monday Sept. 12 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is American Cancer Society.
