VAN WERT, Ohio - Billie V. Merriss, 80, of Van Wert, died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio.
She was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Middlesboro, Ky., to the late Shirley (Robinson) Simpson and Harvey Simpson.
Her husband, Dale Merriss, survives in Van Wert.
Other survivors include a daughter: Cheryl (Donald) Creevy of Huntertown, Ind.; a nephew: John Saylor of Columbus, Ohio; brothers: Charles Simpson of Van Wert and Harvey (Georgia) Simpson, Jr. of Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif.; sister: Jacqueline DeBolt of Van Wert, and a grandchild: Andy Creevy of Huntertown, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a brother: James Simpson, and two sisters: Pauline Lynch and Nadine Woodburn.
She retired from Kennedy Mfg. Company in Van Wert and was a member of First Baptist Church, Van Wert.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Steve Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center or American Cancer Society.
