Bruce Byer

OHIO CITY, Ohio - Bruce R. "Barney" Byer, 59, of Ohio City, died early Friday morning, June 7, 2013, at Van Wert Hospital, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born March 13, 1954, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Virgil Ione (McDorman) Byer and Harold Byer.
He is survived by Mary Gallaway of Ohio City; children: Amanda Thomas and Erik Byer, both Van Wert; brothers: Tony (Kelley) Byer of Celina, Ohio, and Jason Byer of Ohio City; sisters: Phyllis (Phil) Battels of Ada, Ohio, Linda (Jack) Tice of Convoy, Ohio, Leandra (Vince) Brummette and Tammy (Gary, Jr.) Carter, both Van Wert, and three grandchildren: Patrick Thomas, Alexandria Thomas and Skylar Byer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Mark Byer.
He retired from Kennedy Manufacturing, Van Wert, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Rockford Eagles, Rockford Sons of the American Legion and Willshire Sportsman Club, and a former member of Wetzel Motorcycle Club.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert.
