Byron E. Mohr, 92, passed away Sunday, May 1st at Van Wert Manor.
He was born April 28, 1930 in Union Township, Van Wert County. His parents, Carl and Dorothy (Webb) Mohr preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Janet (Williams) Mohr, son Marc L (Jill) Mohr of Lapel, Indiana; sisters Janice (Dean) Lichtensteiger of Convoy, Joan Stripe of Van Wert, brother Gary (Carol) Mohr of Van Wert; grandchildren Megan (Tom) Starnes of Brownsburg, Indiana, Ashley Foster of Ft. Wayne Indiana, Evan (Kait) Mohr of Pendleton, Indiana, Isaac Mohr and Cade Mohr of Lapel, Indiana. He was also "Little Grandpa" to five great grandchildren, Madden and Macy Starnes, Sierra and Samantha Foster and Brooks Mohr.
Byron was preceded in death by his daughter, Melody (Mohr) Hicks; his sisters, Gloria (Mohr) Fast, Beverly (Mohr) Zimmerman; a brother, David Mohr; brother-in-laws, Hayden Williams, Robert Stripe, William Fast, Phil Zimmerman.
Byron graduated from Hoaglin Jackson High School in 1948 . He served with the 1st Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas during the Korean War. He was employed with Aeroquip Corporation for 34 years. Byron enjoyed camping and working with the Boy Scouts for ten years leading and making two trips to Philmont. Volunteering was a huge part of his life, serving on the Van Wert County Historical Museum board, Lincoln Highway Association, and various church projects. He also spent lots of time helping family and friends with many different home improvement projects.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Trinity United Methodist Church , Van Wert, with the Rev. David To officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00-2:00 prior to the service. Burial will take place directly following the service in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert. Military rights will be conducted by a combined unit of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW.
Preferred memorials: Van Wert County Historical Museum or Boy Scout Troop 32 (Middle Point, Oh) .
