Capt. Ronald E. Clemons, USMC (ret.) of Convoy, died at 4:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 22, 1944, in Hardin County, Ohio, to the late Laura (Hurt) Clemons and Arthur Clemons.
His wife, Diane (Young) Clemons, survives. They were married Nov. 10, 2010.
Other survivors include children, Laura Brown of Maryland, Tracie (Mat) Johnson of Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Ron (Amanda) Clemons of Blacklick, Ohio; stepchildren, Alex John (Jenny) Helt and Steve (Amy Hyitt) Helt, both of Convoy, Jason (Andrea) Mezuk of Lima, and Ethan Metuk of Van Wert; brothers, Kevin (Janice) Clemons, Robert (Wilma) Clemons, and Jeff Clemons; sisters, Marilyn (Sam) Nitchie, Sheila (Robert) Dye, and Helen (Ron) Shumaker; 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Clemons.
He retired as a captain with the United States Marine Corps. He attended Convoy United Methodist Church. He was a Viet Nam veteran where he served as a gunner with the elite Purple Foxes. He was a former commander of Ada VFW and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and spending time with his VFW brothers.
Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Gearhart & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy, with military honors rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at the funeral home in Convoy.
Preferred memorial is American Diabetes Association or the Convoy Fire Department.
