VAN WERT, Ohio - Carl S. Kohorst, 85, of Van Wert, died at 10:52 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Delphos, Ohio, to the late Ethel (Harris) Kohorst and Frank Kohorst. His wife, Dorothy (Becker) Kohorst, survives in Van Wert. They were married May 16, 1947. He was married to the love of his life for 64 years.
Other survivors include his children: Michael R. (Cynthia) Kohorst and Beth (Ron) Golemon, both of Van Wert; three sisters: Ruth Kemper, Betty Bridgeman, Margie Kohorst, all of Delphos, Ohio: his grandchildren: Amy (Dennis) Sperry, Kristi (Eugene) Trejo, Mandy (William) Hemming and Justin Kohorst, and great-grandchildren: Jenelle Sperry, Haley Sperry, Jacob Trejo, Janie Trejo, Julia Trejo, Gianna Hemming, Elena Hemming and Caleb Hemming.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Harold, Richard, Delmar, Eugene and Donald Kohorst, and sisters: Rose Carmean and Violet Carmean.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert, and retired after 38A½ years with West Ohio Gas as a construction foreman. He was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre, a life member of the Delphos VFW and a member of Utilities Union #308. He loved to spend time with the grandchildren, loved sports and fishing and was an avid supporter of Special Olympics.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Revs. Rev. Jay Nesselroad and Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Military graveside services will be conducted.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are Delphos VFW OR Special Olympics.
