Charles E. R. York, 74, of Van Wert, died at 11:28 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice. He was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Greencastle, Indiana, to the late Anna Marie (Aubrey) York and Max T. York. His wife, Linda York, preceded him in death. They were married Nov. 28, 1962.
Survivors include children, Gary (Karen) York of Shade, Ohio, Brenda (Dave) Burger of Van Wert, Diane York of Van Wert, Steve (Judy) York of Ray, Ohio, Clint (Casey) York of Van Wert; brothers, Frank (Mary) Sanford of Riverside, California, Max (Bonnie) York of Convoy, Ohio; a sister, Wanda "Judy" (Marion) Vibbert of Convoy, Ohio; sister-in-law, Donna York of Van Wert, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith York.
He retired from the maintenance department with Findlay Industries in Ohio City, Ohio. He had also worked at Fruehauf Trailer in Delphos, Ohio, and Chrysler Plant in Van Wert. He was a veteran of the United States Navy - serving from 1962-1965, a member of Whitetail Unlimited and an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
Service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. James Klausing will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Ohio, with military graveside services being conducted. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at the funeral home.
