VAN WERT, Ohio - Charlotte D. Hogan (Newton), 67, died at home peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 26, 2011.
Born in San Diego, Calif., she resided in Van Wert since 1988. She was a military wife who was devoted and supported her Navy husband, Robert F. Hogan, during many deployments. They met and married in Tampa, Fla., over 48 years ago.
She is also survived by two daughters: Diana M. Saigo, (Nova) and Ginny B. Sanders (Scott) and a son, Christopher R. Hogan (April). Her grandchildren will miss her dearly: Tiffany, Ronny, Timothy, Trane, Luci, Willow & Zakkery. Also surviving are her two sisters: Jeorgia Moore and Patt McEvers.
Charlotte endured and overcame many hardships in her life to include the deaths of three of her children: Jay Patrick, Heidi Beth, who both died in birth, and Jay Eugene (1991) as well as her parents (George Newton and Virginia Mager) and most recently her brother, Richard Newton.
She was compassionate, funny, a great cook, crafty and artistic. Reading, crocheting, her collections, and her dogs were just a few of her passions.
She was the most proud of her work in raising AIDS awareness with her beloved son Jay in the late 80's and early 90's.
Viewing is scheduled for Oct. 1 from 12-2, with a service at 2 p.m. at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S. Washington St. Van Wert.
