VAN WERT, Ohio - Colleen M. Clark died Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Colleen was born in Van Wert on March 22, 1930, to Forrest G. and Wave A. Oswalt who preceded her in death. She was married to Dan Clark on Jan. 24, 1953, in Van Wert, and he passed away on Sept. 28, 2010.
Survivors include a son, Ron (Lois) Clark of Centerville, Ohio; a daughter, Denise Clark of Dayton; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother Ron Oswalt of Van Wert.
A brother, John Oswalt, preceded her in death.
Colleen graduated from Van Wert High School in 1948. She was a member of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, AARP and was a charter member of Rho Chapter, Alpha Delta Omega Sorority. She worked for the City of Van Wert as an administrative secretary to four mayors and served as clerk of council for one year. She also worked for R. Dwight Bennett, superintendent of Van Wert City Schools and administrative secretary to plant manager of Sterling Electric Motors (formerly Aeroquip Corporation).
She spent many years visiting residents of all three local nursing homes and the homebound. She was referred to as the "candy lady", because during her visits she provided candy to the residents and employees.
She will be cremated and there will be no visitation. Private family graveside services will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio. Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Cancer Center of NW Ohio, Lima, Ohio or to the American Diabetes Association.
