VAN WERT, Ohio - Colleen J. "Connie" Miller, 82, of Van Wert, died at 10:26 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Van Wert, to the late Jennie (Woods) Cook and Logan Cook. Her husband, Richard J. Miller, died Aug. 9, 2010. They were married on March 28, 1948.
Survivors include her children: Darlene (Byron) Gregory of Kansas City, Mo., and Susan (Rick) Farley of Carmel, Ind., her grandchildren: Candace (Mike) Meyer and Brandon and Britney Farley, and great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Hayden Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Lowell, Eugene, Derl and Miles Cook, and sisters: Marjorie Close and Betty Weddle.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, Ind., and had been a member of the former St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Van Wert County. She had worked at the Teleflex Corp. in Van Wert and had helped on the family farm. Colleen was very involved in all her children's activities while they were growing up. She loved to paint, do wood carvings, sew and needlework. She was also very fond of creating ceramic artworks which were given to family and friends as keepsakes. She was a former member of the Women's Guild of Zion United Church of Christ, a member of the Wren Garden Club and had won numerous awards for her flower arranging. She belonged to the Wren Historical Society and the Good Sam RV Club and was a former member of the Van Wert Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. The Rev. Randy Rossman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
