Dale Smith

Dale G. Smith, 82, of Van Wert died at 9:20 AM on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. He was born June 4, 1936 to the late Homer and Iva Ruth (Greenawalt) Smith.

Dale is survived by 3 sister in laws, Pat Smith of Van Wert, Wuaneta Smith of Van Wert, and Virginia Smith of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Fred, Kenneth, Richard, Donald, Robert and a twin brother Dean.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany. Dale enjoyed collecting antique cars and tractors. In his early years Dale had worked and lived in California. Upon returning to Ohio he worked in various industries and was a former owner of Smitty's Motel in Van Wert.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Gearhart-Sauer Funeral Home in Convoy, Ohio. Burial will immediately follow at Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 AM on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials may be directed to the Van Wert Council on Aging or to the donor's choice.
