Deacon Reinhart

Deacon Norbert J. Reinhart, 87, of Van Wert, died at 8:55 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, Van Wert. He was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Paulding County, Ohio, to the late Marcellus (Schultz) Reinhart and James Reinhart.

His wife, Beverly (Ely) Reinhart, survives in Van Wert. They were married June 11, 1949.

Other survivors include his children: son James and wife Judy Reinhart and family of Van Wert, son Anthony and wife Karen Reinhart and family of Van Wert, and son-in-law, David Tamsen, and family of Allen Park, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne, one brother who died in infancy, and one sister, Rosemary Steinbauer.

After extensive schooling, on June 7, 1975, he became permanent deacon at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He enjoyed serving the religious needs of many people during his tenure of 40 years as a permanent deacon. He also was retired from The Continental Can Co., Van Wert, after 38 years.

He attended Emerald Twp. School for eight years and Paulding High School. He was inducted to the Marine Corps on Jan. 3, 1951, during the Korean War. He served in the Marines as a M.P., engineer, CIA and Special Forces, and stood guard at the White House. He enjoyed woodworking and construction work during his free time.

Service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at St. Mary of the Assumption, Van Wert. Bishop Daniel Thomas and Father Stanley Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with military graveside services by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion & VFW Posts.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, where a rosary will be held at 8 p.m. following visitation at the church.

Preferred memorials are masses in Norbert's honor.
