Dean McOmber

Dean C. McOmber, 92, of Van Wert, passed away 10:00 PM on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Vancrest of Van Wert. He was born August 12, 1925 in Scott, Ohio to the late Clyde and Gladys (Bruckart) McOmber.

A 1943 graduate of Union High School, Dean went on to serve as an Army Staff Sergeant in the Philippines during WWII.  Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Eleanor L. Duncan on June 1, 1947. Dean, a lifelong farmer, served on the Crestview School Board, the Van Wert County Hospital Board, the Convoy Foundation Board and was a life member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Ellie McOmber of Van Wert; children, Larry McOmber of Dalton, GA; Bob (Carolyn) McOmber of Scott, OH; Karen Bullinger of Van Wert; grandchildren, Cheryl Hild, Jason Bullinger, Aaron McOmber, April Bullinger; great grandchildren, Ian Hild, Aiden & Ethan McOmber; Kelsey & Dylan Bullinger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale McOmber; Donald McOmber; Gerald McOmber and William McOmber; and son-in-law, Randy Bullinger.

Funeral Service will be 12 PM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert with Rev. Gus Cristo-Baker presiding.

Graveside Service will be at 9 AM, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Convoy IOOF Cemetery with military honors rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW..

The family will receive friends Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory.

Preferred memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
