Dean Stemen

Dean E. Stemen, 76, of Middle Point, died at 12:26 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert, Ohio.

He was born Feb. 26,1939, in Van Wert, to the late Thelma (Tabler) Stemen and David Stemen.

He married Judy A. (Wortman) Stemen on June 20, 1959. She died April 11, 1982. He married Shirley M. (Riley) Wortman Stemen on Sept. 28, 1984. She survives in Middle Point.

Survivors include children, Rick Stemen of Van Wert, David (Kristina) Stemen of Rockford, Ohio, Debra (Dieter) Trilus, Rossville, Indiana, Barry Wortman of Perry, Georgia, Jane (Kent) Schmid of Van Wert, and Kerry Arthur, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Snyder and Phyllis Stemen.

He retired from Aeroquip/Eaton, Van Wert. He was a volunteer for Middle Point Fire Dept. for 46 years and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Delphos, Ohio. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of Delphos Masonic Lodge; 33rd Degree Shriner, Ft. Wayne Chapter, and the Van Wert American Legion. He loved fishing, hunting and golf.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point. Military graveside services will be provided by Van Wert American Legion & VFW Posts.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center OR Middle Point Fire Dept.
