On Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, Donald B. McOmber went to be with the Lord at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Facility.
He was born the son of Clyde L. and Gladys Naomi (Bruckhart) McOmber. Survivors include his wife Anna Louise (Edwards) McOmber. Both Don and Annie celebrated their 90th birthdays in September. Other survivors include a son: Michael (Judy) McOmber, a daughter: Beverly (John) Eichenlaub, two grandsons: Adam McOmber and Kory Hurless, and a great-grandson: Kaden Hurless. He is also survived by three brothers: Dean (Eleanor), Rev. William (Dorothy), Gerald (Joann) McOmber and their families.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a brother: Dale R. McOmber, a sister in-law: Joan, two nieces and one nephew.
Don proudly served in the 15th Army Air Corps in Italy and northern Africa in World War II as a radio operator in a B17 bomber. When thanked for serving, he would humbly reply, the real heroes were the ones who gave their lives so we could have freedom in our country.
He was a faithful and very active member in the three United Methodist churches in which he attended throughout his life.
Don was also a member of the American Legion, the Scott Lion's Club, and served on the board of Wee Care Day Care Center. He was willing to do menial tasks in all these organizations.
His real love was farming, but he also was a substitute school teacher, plumber, seed corn salesman, and factory worker.
Don lived his life to the fullest by enjoying fishing, golfing, and bowling. He was an avid fan of the Crestview Knights, the Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State University football and basketball teams.
He loved his family and friends, and especially a little Chihuahua "Emmie."
