Doris Scott

Doris R. Scott, 87, of Van Wert, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born April 6, 1926, in Paulding County, Ohio, to the late Emma (Myers) Smith and Harley Smith.

Her husband, William H. Scott, died Oct. 28, 2013. Their anniversary is May 28, 1949.

Survivors include children: Judy (David) Mead of Columbus, Ohio, Susie (Harvey) Stoller of Van Wert, and Nancy Garibay of Maumee, Ohio, four grandchildren: Zach (Heather) Stoller, Nick (Chrissy) Stoller, Alex Garibay, and Mercedes Mead, and a great-granddaughter: Olivia Stoller.

She was preceded in death by brothers: Earl Smith and Clare Smith, and a grandchild: Becca Mead.

She worked as a secretary for Scott Insurance Company and Van Wert Farm Bureau for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, and a former member of the Middle Point United Methodist Church in Middle Point, Ohio.

She played the piano and organ at Middle Point United Methodist Church and loved to winter in North Fort Myers, Florida

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Revs. Gus Christo-Baker and Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is First United Methodist Church, Van Wert, or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.
