It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas David Smith, 76, on November 21, 2023. He was born on December 26, 1946, in Celina, OH, to the late Gerald Smith and the former Fern (Myers) Smalley.
He attended Rockford High School prior to moving to Celina. Douglas graduated from Celina High School in 1965. He attended Miami University, then joined the Army, serving from 1968 until 1969.
Douglas was a compassionate and hardworking man who dedicated his life to his family. For many years, he worked diligently at Goodyear, retiring after 30 years of service. He dearly loved music and playing the guitar. Douglas enjoyed gardening and going to the beach. But mostly he would want to be remembered as a man of God who loved the Lord.
Douglas had a true passion for his loved ones. Douglas cherished every moment spent creating memories with his family. He loved attending his grandchildren's concerts and sporting events.
Douglas was a loving and devoted husband of 37 years. On July 4, 1986 he married the former Sherry Green, who survives. Also surviving are their daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Pugh of Venedocia; two sons, Matt Smith of Cleveland, and Mark (Alesha) Winkeljohn of Celina; grandchildren, Madison Pugh, Isaiah Pugh, Mason Smith, Abby Smith, Donovan Winkeljohn, Alayna Webb, and Alexa Billger; sister, Barb (Mark) Fleck of Celina; sisters-in-law, Carol (Bill) Thiebeau, Debra (Evan) Leichty, Carly (Josh) Bolin; brothers-in-law, Carl (Kim) Green, Jr., David Green; step siblings, Ron (Jeannie) Smalley, Steve (Beth) Smalley, Glenda Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
To honor and pay tribute to the beautiful life of Douglas David Smith, funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Ketcham Ripley Funeral Home, 111 W. First Street, Rockford, Ohio 45882, with Pastor Steve Haddix officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, 3133 US-33, Rockford, Ohio 45882.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the funeral home.
