VAN WERT, Ohio - Dudley B. Stetler, 81, of Van Wert, died at 5:23 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
He was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Pleasant Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Fannie May (Krick) Stetler and Fred Stetler. His wife, Betty (Basil) Stetler, is deceased.
Survivors include his children: John (Deb) Stetler of Ottoville, Ohio, Sandra Bea (Dan) Sampson of Harbor Springs, Mich., and Brad Stetler of Van Wert, a sister: Bernice Young of Van Wert, and his grandchildren: Salix & Benjamin Sampson, Abby & Andy Fischbach, Carly Stetler.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Maurice, Jack, Ben, Bob and Don Stetler, and a sister: Grace Gribler.
He was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert. He retired from American Ready Mix in 1996 after 18 years, was a licensed auctioneer and worked for various businesses in the area since 1968 and was an auto and truck mechanic working with his brothers, Jack and Maurice, in Stetler's Garage. He was a veteran of the US Army, a life member of the Van Wert American Legion and a member of the Van Wert 40 et 8.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Clark Williman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with military graveside service by Van Wert Posts of the American Legion & VFW.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the funeral home. A 40 et 8 memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is American Heart Association.
