Edwin Pierce

February 6, 1921 — December 9, 2017

Edwin J. Pierce, 96, of Convoy, Ohio died Saturday Evening, December 9, 2017 at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.

He was born February 6, 1921 in Monroeville, Indiana to the late William M. and Nella (Parker) Pierce.  On June 12, 1944 he married Margaret E. Schwartz.  She preceded him in death.

Ed is survived by 2 children:  Carolyn Sue (Max) Priddy of Van Wert and David J. (Karen) Pierce of Avon, Indiana; 2 grandchildren, Diana Swander and Mike (Heather) Pierce; 4 great grandchildren, Stephanie (Austin) Thomas, Michelle (Ted) Tate, Sophia Pierce and Nathan Pierce; 3 step great grandchildren, Don (Jen) Swander, Travis (Meghan) Swander and Brent (Lauren) Swander; 3 great great grandchildren, Lyla Mae Thomas, Connor Thomas and Pierce Tate (named after his great great grandfather Ed); 4 step great great grandchildren, Kaedyn Swander, Kallie Swander, Kole Swander and Peyton Swander; a son in law, Mike (Marie) Sheets; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed retired from National Seal Corporation in Van Wert in 1984 after 33 years of service.  He was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in central Europe during WW II from 1942-1945.  On October 7, 2015 Ed was able to take an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  He was also a life member of the Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W. Posts.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed is preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Sheets; grandchildren, Mary and Barry McHugh; and a sister, Wilma Agler.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, Ohio.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City, Ohio with military services being conducted by combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W.

Visitation is 2-6 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory.

Preferred memorials may be directed to Gideon’s International or Maplewood of Shane’s Village.
