At the end of his earthly journey, Fred was at home surrounded by his loving family and passed peacefully at 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016. G. Fred Collins, 80, of Van Wert, was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Jackson Township, Ohio. His parents, Florence (Snyder) Collins and Edwin Collins, preceded him in death.
His wife, Wileta (Girod) Collins, survives. They were married on June 20, 1954.
Other survivors include his children: Teresa (Roger) Rhodes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Leta (Ed) Feasby of Convoy, Ohio, Michael (Lourie Bergman, fiancAC.e) Collins, Bill (Leslie) Collins, and Shawne (Susan Fisher) Collins, all of Van Wert; brothers: Ralph (Mauvette) Collins of Van Wert and Don (Vivian) Collins of Grover Hill, Ohio; sister: Ruth (Richard) Vermillion of Cridersville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Floyd Collins.
He was a lifelong farmer, a 1954 graduate of Hoaglin-Jackson High School, and attended Wesley United Methodist Church.
Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and Crematory, Van Wert. A funeral meal will follow at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mohr Cemetery, Van Wert County, Ohio.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Community Health Professions Hospice.
