Gene F. Barnes, born on August 12, 1929, in Auglaize County, Ohio, to Floyd and Atha (Wagner) Barnes, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 95. A longtime resident of Grover Hill, Ohio, Gene was a devoted father and a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served honorably during the Korean War. He married the former Janice Sanderson, she preceded him in death. He then married Dolores (Dotson) Hughes, she also preceded him in death.
He retired in 1986 from General Motors- Central Foundry Division, in Defiance, after 37 years of service.
Gene was known for his passion for collecting antiques, often spending cherished weekends at auctions.
He is survived by his two adoring children: son Stephen Barnes of Oakwood, Ohio, and son Michael (Shirley) Barnes of Adrian, MI, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and stepchildren Kelli (Norm) Baer and Kent (Kim) Hughes and their families.
In addition to Janice and Dolores, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Patricia Pennington, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
By Gene's request, the family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gene's memory to Community Health Professionals- Hospice.
