Gene E. Harting, 78, of Van Wert, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at his residence.
He was born December 19, 1936, in Convoy, the son of William E. and Mary (Klinger) Harting, who both preceded him in death. On November 3, 1962, he married Marsha J. (Sherman) Harting, who survives in Van Wert.
Other survivors include four children, Shelly (Clay) Brown of Seattle, Washington, Steve (Lisa) Harting of Nebo, North Carolina, Dan (Linda) Harting of Celina and David (Anne) Harting of Convoy; three brothers, Lawrence (Charlotte) Harting of Van Wert, and Gerald Harting and Roger (Mary) Harting, both of Convoy; and 10 grandchildren, Zach, Christy, Elizabeth, Jaydon, Nicholas, Ragen, Jaret, McKenzie, Devan and Riley.
A brother and sister also preceded him in death.
Mr. Harting retired from Eaton/Aeroquip Corporation in Van Wert after 55 years of service. He had served in the Ohio National Guard and was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 26, at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with Wayne Taylor officiating.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.
