Gene Francis Metzinger, 89, of Rockford, Ohio, formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, May 10, at 3:35 a.m., at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, where he was a resident since 2010. He was born in Kankakee, Illinois on November 12, 1925, to Anthony and Carrie (Lesko) Metzinger. On October 15, 1955, he married Joan Sharp, in Summit, New Jersey; she preceded him in death on March 1, 1996. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Chemistry and was employed as plant manager at the Lord Corporation in Erie, PA. Gene served his country in WW II in the Army Air Corp. Surviving are one son, Andy (Cami) Metzinger of McMurray, Pennsylvania and one daughter, Missy (Doug) Vonderhaar of Fond Du Lae, Wisconsin. Four grandchildren survive: Stacey (David) Vonderhaar, Leslie (Paul) Hultgren, Jack Metzinger, and Hannah Metzinger. Three great grandchildren survive: James Vonderhaar, Thomas Hultgren, and Claire Hultgren. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family in Erie, Pennsylvania.
