Gerald E. Jerome, 85, of Van Wert, went to his heavenly home at 12:55 PM on Tuesday, December 01, 2020 at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on February 03, 1935, in Van Wert, to the late Robert and Gladys Floriene (Finkhousen) Jerome.
Gerald served his country in the United States Marine Corp for 3 years and was discharged on March 1, 1957. On August 04, 1957, he married the love of his life, Jane (Patrick) Jerome. Together, they shared many years of memories.
Gerald began employment for Aeroquip in 1964 until he retired as a customer service representative there. Following retirement, he work for Ray Industrial. Gerald was an avid reader and quick to lend a hand to those he saw in need.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Jerome of Van Wert; son, Jeff Jerome of Lima; brothers: Duane (Jean) Jerome of Texas; Maynard (Bobbi) Jerome of Illinois; David (Marlene) Jerome of Grove City; sisters: Mary (Gene) Jordan of Lima; Margaret Madewell of Colorado; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:15 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Woodland Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Burkey officiating. Military Rites will be rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 1 to 3 PM, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.
Due to the Covid Pandemic, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to attend Gerald's visitation and graveside service. However, we continue to be cautious and concerned for our most vulnerable friends and loved ones. We request attendee's respect the well-being of the family and friends. Attendees are required to observe social distancing, refrain from close physical contact, and wear facial coverings.
