Gerald Allen Slane, 83, of Ohio City, Ohio, passed away early Friday morning, March 27, 2020, at Vancrest Nursing Home in Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born on February 8, 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of Elvin and Edna Belle (Uhrich) Slane.
Gerald served 6 years in the United States Army National Guard. He was a farmer and had worked at the former Continental Can in Van Wert, until his retirement. He enjoyed working with wood and building birdhouses. He had lived his entire life in the Van Wert County area and had attended St. Paul United Church of Christ, Rockford.
Surviving is a sister, Helen (Jerry) Rolsten of Mendon, Ohio, four nieces and nephews: Gale (Ruth) Matthews, Wayne Matthews, Joyce (Walt) Theisen, and Ava (Gregg) Scheidt.
Deceased is his fiancé, Darlene Gibbons, who preceded him in death on December 16, 2008, and a sister Marcile Matthews.
Graveside services for Gerald will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Rockford, Ohio. As always, you may express your condolences at ketchamripley.com. Services have been entrusted to Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, Ohio.
