MIDDLE POINT, Ohio a�" Gerald E. "Tuffy" Spridgeon, 87, of Middle Point, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Middle Point, to the late Myrtle (Friesner) Spridgeon and James L. Spridgeon.
His wife, Esther (Byers) Spridgeon, survives in Middle Point.
Other survivors include children: Elsie (Joe) Thompson of Newark, Ohio, Gary "Harry" Spridgeon and Jay Spridgeon, both of Middle Point, grandchildren: Brad Thompson and Jody King, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Leo Spridgeon and sisters: Betty Lewis and Oleta Leathers.
He retired in 1991 from the maintenance department of Textron (formerly EX-CELLO) in Lima, Ohio, after 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific during WW II.
He was a member of the Van Wert American Legion and Middle Point AMVETS and formerly volunteered with the Middle Point Fire Department.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point. Military graveside services will be conducted by Van Wert American Legion & VFW.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Middle Point Fire Department or Delphos Presbyterian Church.
