Gladys Jerome

VAN WERT, Ohio - Gladys Floriene Jerome, 95, of Van Wert, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Vancrest Healthcare Center, Convoy, Ohio.

She was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Nettie A. (Heath) Finkhousen and John F. Finkhousen. Her husband, Robert Martin Jerome, died Aug. 22, 1983. They were married Feb. 10, 1932.

Survivors include her children: Robert Duane (Jean) Jerome of Bella Vista, Ark., Gerald E. (Jane) Jerome of Van Wert, Mary K. (Gene) Jordan of Lima, Ohio, Margaret (Bill) Madewell of Garland, Texas, Maynard R. (Bobbi) Jerome of Channahon, Ill., and Jesse David (Marlene) Jerome of Grove City, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Adrian L. Finkhousen, and two sisters: Helen DeCamp and Cleo Wisener.

She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert. She was very active in church work - was a Sunday school teacher and superintendant and youth fellowship counselor and was an officer in the Christian Business and Professional Women organization.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert. The Revs. Clark Williman and Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Preferred memorials are Gideon International or Van Wert Salvation Army.
