Gregory Whisman

Gregory Reed Whisman,66, of Van Wert, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Van Wert Hospital ER. He was  born on December 14, 1957, in Batesville, IN, to Dorsie R. and Mary Elizabeth (Dobson) Whisman.

Gregory, known to family and friends as Greg, had a passion for craftsmanship which led him to a career in carpentry. With his skillful hands and keen eye for detail, he effortlessly brought countless projects to life.

Outside of work, Greg was a man of many interests. He had a deep love for spending time in nature, often retreating to the quiet woods to go "bigfooting" or venturing out with his beloved drone to capture stunning aerial views. He cherished every moment with his granddaughters, especially Stella, as they embarked on countless adventures together. Greg also had a great appreciation for music, frequently attending concerts and enjoying the thrill of live performances.

He was also an accomplished artist, and his creative spirit was evident in his unique artwork, which touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of seeing it. He found solace and inspiration in painting, demonstrating his talent and capturing the essence of his surroundings with every brushstroke.

Known as a true "Mr. Fixit," Greg had a remarkable talent for taking things apart and reassembling them effortlessly. No challenge was too great for him to overcome. He even collaborated with his son, Michael, as they worked together as roofers, leaving behind sturdy structures that will stand as a testament to Greg's craftsmanship for years to come.

Greg is survived by his children: Michael "Max" (Cailey Pierce) Whisman, Samuel Whisman, and Alexandra Whisman; step daughter, Ashley McKee; parents, Dorsie Whisman and Mary Whisman; brothers: Jeff M. (Kelli) Whisman, Rodney L. (Nikki) Whisman; sister, Marcia Ann Whisman; grandchildren: Taelyn Whisman, Stella Whisman, Haley Sheets, Skylynn Whisman, Scarlett Skinner, Harper Whisman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly McKenzie; son, Jeff Whisman and stepson, Johnny McKee.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S. Washington St, Van Wert, OH 45891 with Rev. Stuart Wyatt officiating.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the service, from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Greg will be cremated following the services.
