H. Welker

H. Douglas Welker, 71, of Van Wert, OH passed away November 2,2013, in Urbana, IL, from injuries sustained in a single car crash.

Doug was born December 21, 1941, to Carrie E. (Jackson) and Lionel O Welker. He graduated from Van Wert High School in 1959 and attended The Ohio State University and Ft. Wayne International Business College. He was employed by People's Bank and Trust/Wells Fargo Bank until his retirement as Vice President and Cashier in 2003.

Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna(DuCheney),of Van Wert, sons Steve and Scott(Kathleen) and daughter Shannon (Patrick) Greer all of Illinois. Also surviving are grandchildren: C.J.,Jordan, Jessica, Sam, Jake and Zac Welker, and Getty & Zeb Greer.

Doug was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Willow Bend Golf Club, The YMCA and numerous community service organizations. He loved the Van Wert community and enthusiastically contributed many hours of community service.

Doug was passionate about the game of golf and the Van Wert High School golf program. Donations can be made out to the Doug Welker Golf Memorial c/o Gloria Kimmey 1037 Rosalie Dr. Van Wert, OH, 45891.

His family is supported by and appreciates the outpouring of affection for Doug at this time of sadness. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at Willow Bend Golf Course in the spring of 2014. All who want to celebrate Doug's life will be welcome. Details will be provided at a later date.
