Harold R. Boyd, Jr

Harold R. Boyd, Jr, 98, of Van Wert, died at 8:45am on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at his residence.

He was born January 16, 1926, in Van Wert, to Harold R., Sr and Zelma (Fisher) Boyd. On December 16, 1943, he married the former Patricia A. Potter.

Harold was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in WWII. He was part of the first wave of allied forces who stormed the beaches in Normandy, France.

He retired as owner/operator of Boyd Construction in Van Wert. He also retired from the United States Naval Reserves.

Harold attended Good Shepherd of the Nazarene Church in Van Wert. He also volunteered his time and skill with the Friends Disaster Services for over 20 years, providing relief in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Harold is survived by three children, Harold R. (Jean) Boyd III, Don (Jackie) Boyd and Diane Brock; 15 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia A. "Patty" Boyd; daughters, Kathy Thompson and Angela Judith Bridges; sons in law, Rick Bridges, Byron Thompson and Jonathan Brock; brothers, Robert, Walter and Donald Boyd; and a sister, Lois Warner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Stuart Wyatt, officiating. Burial with military rites will immediately follow in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Health Professionals Hospice or to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
