Harry Lee Long, 70, of Rockford, Ohio, died on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 10:18 p.m. at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert, Ohio, where he was a patient. He was born September 6, 1940 in Rockford, to Ross E. and Lucille (Caywood) Long. On April 29, 2000, he married Roberta K. (Birdie) Houser, and she survives in Rockford. He had served in the United States Navy Reserve, and was employed by New Idea in Coldwater, Ohio, where he retired. He lived in the Rockford area all his life, and was a member of the Rockford American Legion Post #508 and the Rockford F.O.E. #1292. Surviving in addition to his wife, Birdie, are three children: a son, Jeff Long, 2 daughters, Penny (Tom) Stover, and Teresa (Mike) Heiser, all of Rockford. Eight grandchildren survive: Courtney & Aaron Temple, Jason Stover, Erin & Brian Korte, Jacob & Amy Long, Dillon Long, Andrew Long, and Colby and Kara Heiser; five great grandchildren survive: McKenna, Gracyn, and Emmery Temple, and Cohen and Bosten Korte. One brother Edwin (Karen) Long survives in Rockford also. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Marvin Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and on Friday, 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Association of Mercer County.
