Helen G. Davis, 84, of Rockford, passed away on Friday morning, November 16th, 2012, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana, following a brief illness. She was born June 11, 1928, in Albany, Ohio. Her parents were Howard and Jennie Davis from Albany, Ohio. She is survived by two brothers, Dale Davis and Paul Davis both from Albany, Ohio. She is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Glen Davis from Cleveland, Isabelle Morrison from Cleveland, and Kenneth Davis from Athens. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Helen will be remembered by many as a local baker and a waitress at Motor Inn located in Mercer, Ohio. Helen came to Rockford in 1947 with Stanley and Thelma McNutt when they purchased the Motor Inn restaurant located at Jct. 127 & 33. She assisted them in running the restaurant until it was sold in 1972. Helen ran the White Horse Restaurant located in Rockford following the sale of Motor Inn. In 1981, a fire destroyed the White Horse restaurant and Helen returned to Motor Inn and retired in 1997. Following her retirement, she would be seen in downtown Rockford holding weekend bake sales. She continued to make pies and related baked goods for local residences and the Chatt Bar Restaurant in Rockford. Helen was a member of Mount Tabor Church of God, Celina. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Tabor Church of God on Friday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jim Kaiser and Pastor Richard Van Horn officiating. Friends may call the day of the service at the church from 9:00 a.m. up until the time of the service. Helen will be laid to rest in the Alexander Cemetery located in Albany, Ohio on November 24th. Prior to burial, viewing hours will be held at the Rolling Hills Baptist Church located at 7600 Church Hill Drive, Athens, Ohio, 45701, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the church. A graveside service will follow at the Alexander Cemetery.
