Herbert Lautzenheiser

Herbert "Ray" Lautzenheiser, 87, of Middle Point, died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Van Wert County Hospital. He was born March 4, 1929, in Adams County, Indiana. His parents, Effie (Cook) Lautzenheiser and George Clint Lautzenheiser, preceded him in death.

His wife, Beatrice "Becky" (Thatcher) Lautzenheiser, survives. They were married March 11, 1951.

Other survivors include a son, Alan (Belinda Miller) Lautzenheiser of Van Wert, Ohio; two brothers, Phil (Judy) Lautzenheiser of Van Wert and Marlin (Rose) Lautzenheiser of Cridersville, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Lautzenheiser of Van Wert, Betty Lautzenheiser of Miamisburg, Ohio, Bonnie Lautzenheiser of Rockford, Ohio; grandchildren, Scott (Nadine) Lautzenheiser of Washington, Illinois, and Sean Lautzenheiser of Woodburn, Indiana, and great-grandchildren, Levi and Liam Lautzenheiser of Woodburn, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Jerald, Dean and Kenneth Lautzenheiser, and one sister who died at birth.

He retired from Federal Mogul, formerly National Seal, in 1992 after 46 years.

Ray was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the United States Army. Ray was formerly a deacon at Mt. Pleasant Church and a current member of Cavalry Evangelical Church. He was also a member of the Van Wert American Legion and as well as the Van Wert Bowling Association, where he served as secretary for 25 years. Ray was an avid Reds and Buckeyes fan and enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, especially to South Carolina. Above all, Ray cherished the time spend with his wife, son and grandchildren.

Service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. Pastor Clark Williman will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Van Wert, with military honors rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion posts. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Stand For Truth Ministry or Cavalry Evangelical Church.
