Herbert M. Miller, 86, of Rockford (Chattanooga), Ohio, died at 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born November 29, 1925 in Blackcreek Township, Willshire, Ohio, to the late Carl F. and Gertrude (Brewster) Miller. On December 3, 1950, he married Florence Schumm, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Karen (Joe) Bennett of Celina, and a grandson, Jeffrey Bennett of Columbus, Ohio. Two brothers survive: Carl Laverne (Martha) Miller, of Monroe, Indiana and Kenneth (Dee) Miller, of Demotte, Indiana; three sisters survive: Ruth Werner of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; Emilene Henkle of Rockford, Ohio; and Catherine (Paul) Eichler, also of Rockford. Deceased are two sisters, Helen Linn and Anna Lou Kosier. He graduated from Willshire High School and then served in the U.S. Army, in World War II, and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. Herbert retired as Captain of Security from the Lima State Hospital in 1983, after 23 years of service. He also did electrical work and farmed. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, where he was very active. He was a member of the Celina V.F.W., the Geneva American Legion, and also the Willshire American Legion. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. William Maki officiating. Burial to follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service. The VFW will have a service at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and will have graveside military rites on Wednesday Memorials can be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church and the American Lung Association.
