MIDDLE POINT, Ohio - Hilary J. "Fred" Friedrich, 78, of Middle Point, died at 8:33 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Delphos, Ohio, to the late Rose (Carder) Friedrich and Joseph Friedrich.
His wife, Velma "Val" (Granger) Friedrich, died Nov. 26, 1998.
Survivors include his children: Gary (Mary) Friedrich of Wetzel, Ohio, Sherrie Friedrich of Van Wert, Ohio, and Cindy Friedrich of Ft. Jennings, Ohio; a brother: Edward (Janelle) Friedrich of Delphos; sisters: Margaret Fischer of Delphos and Marilyn (Dick) Hemker of Findlay, Ohio; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
He was the former caretaker at King Cemetery, Middle Point. He retired from Ryder Truck Rental in Ft. Wayne, Ind., was a truck driver at Hagen Mfg., a mechanic and worked in the parts room at Ft. Wayne Leasing.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Delphos, a volunteer at the Middle Point Fire Dept. for over 40 years; past member of Van Wert County Rabbit Breeders Association and coached Middle Point Little League, ACME and Pony Leagues for both boys and girls.
He served in the US Navy Reserves for eight years. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 698, Middle Point.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Stan Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Middle Point.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Middle Point Fire Dept. or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
