Jack Douglas Powell, 81, of Rockford, died on Friday, March 8, 2013, at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital. He was born May 26, 1931, in Mercer County, Ohio, to the late Benjamin and Luetta (Curless) Powell. On July 19, 1952 he married Lois Jean Hays who survives in Rockford. Survivors also include: Sons- Steven Powell, of Rockford, Ohio, Michael (Debra) Powell of Mendon, Ohio, Keith (Carol) Powell of St. Henry, Ohio, and Pete Powell of Rockford, Ohio. Brothers- (Twin) Jerry (Betty) Powell of Coldwater, Ohio, and Bill (Shirley) Powell of Portland, Indiana. Sisters- Hope Stein of Celina, Ohio, and Joanne (John) Jutte of Celina, Ohio. Grandchildren- Rachel Powell of Van Wert, Ohio, and David (Emily) Powell of Coldwater, Ohio, and Great grandson Zach Powell of Coldwater, Ohio. He was proceeded in death by four brothers Richard Powell, Bobby Powell, Roger Powell, and Wright Powell, and four sisters Mary Jane Wurster, Mabel Ellis, Violet Shirk, and Delilah Beams. He served in the U.S. Army, on the front lines of the Korean War. He was a member of the Celina VFW Post 5713 and also of the Color Guard. As a member of the Mercer United Methodist church in Mercer, Ohio, he was on the board of trustees, and served as superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. He retired from the Karch Stone Quarry, Rockford, where he was the manager. He also farmed all of his life. Services will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Mercer United Methodist, in Mercer, Ohio with Pastor Kenneth Baker Officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Ohio. Friends may call at Ketcham Ripley Funeral Home on Sunday March 10, from 2-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to service at the church. VFW services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Celina VFW will also be in charge of Graveside rights. Memorials may be directed to the Mercer United Methodist Church, Mercer.
