James Alan “Jim” Dibert, 69, of Van Wert, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 22, 1948, in Lima, Ohio, to Alice (Burkhart) Dibert and J. Edsel Dibert. His parents are deceased.
His wife, Deb Helen Dibert, survives of Van Wert. They were married Sept. 29, 1969.
Other survivors include children, Ben Dibert of Meigs County, Ohio, Amy (Josh) Fabian of Montrose, Colorado, a brother, Steve Dibert of Lima, and grandchildren, Aiyanna and Athan Fabian.
Jim taught at Van Wert High School for 17 years before teaching at Vantage Vocational for 13 years. After teaching, Jim worked for many years at the Pro Shop at Willow Bend County Club before his illness made it too difficult.
After completing his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, Jim went on to complete his graduate work at Bowling Green State University. He was a member at Willow Bend County Club for all of his adult life and was formerly a member of the Van Wert Elks lodge.
Jim was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and an avid golf player. Since 2003, Jim and Deb spent most of their winters in Florida. Above all, Jim enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren.
Service will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. Pastor Josh Angel will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City, Ohio, at a later date.
Visitation is 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are CHP Van Wert Home Care & Hospice or Salvation Army.
