James C. Geething, age 89, of Van Wert, passed away at 5:15 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Lifecare Hospice in Wooster, Ohio. Jim was born February 15, 1927 in Grass Lake, Michigan to the late Marion and Ruby (Baer) Geething.
After graduating from Hoaglin-Jackson High School, Jim served his country in the US Army during WWII and married Carolyn M. Geething on April 4, 1951. He retired from the city of Van Wert after 42 years of service and was a member of the Van Wert American Legion and Trinity United Methodist Church
Jim is survived by his son, Rick (Kathy) Geething of Orrville, Ohio; grandchildren: Nathan (Beth) Geething of Acton, Massachusetts; Aaron Geething of Charleston, West Virginia; Amanda (Aaron) Doerfler of Lexington, Ohio; great grandchildren: McKayla Geething and Reed Geething; and sister, Virginia Placke of Hoaglin Township, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn M. Geething on December 5, 2008; brothers: Robert, Ray, Bill and Doyle Geething; and sister, Elsie Placke.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Van Wert, County, Ohio where military honors will be rendered by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion and VFW.
