VAN WERT, Ohio - James H. Mergy, Sr. of Van Wert died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born May 19, 1939, in Waterloo, Ind., to the late Bertha (May) Miller and Paul Mergy.
His wife, Julia (Himburg) Mergy, survives of Van Wert.
Other survivors include children: Jamie (Shelly) Mergy, Jr. of Marion, Ohio, Paul (Joi) Mergy of Van Wert, Richard (Anita) Mergy of Merced, Calif., and Amy (John) Ryder and Kristi Luich, both of Van Wert; brothers: Robert Mergy of Corpus Christi, Texas, Terry Mewhorter of Columbia, S.C., and Tom Mewhorter of England; sisters: Bessie Carlton of Kentucky and Penny King of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren: Alek (Mandy) Mergy, Shawna Mergy, Nikki (Dorance) Cook, Amber (Brady) Stevens, Tyler (Bethany) Mergy, Shelby Lynn Mergy, Nick (Emily) Ryder, Tristan Mergy, Keith Mergy, Sammie Mergy, Dani Mergy, and great-grandchildren: Lexy Luich, Jayda Vibbert, Maddison Mergy, Drew Cook, Julius Cook, Elijah Ryder.
He retired as an electrical engineer from Life Star Rescue, Van Wert. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, involved with Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, and loved woodworking.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Phillip Zielinski will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at the church.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice or Van Wert County Animal Protective League.
