Jeffrey Goins

Jeffrey L. Goins, 53, of Van Wert, formerly of Scott, passed away unexpectedly at 6:33 AM on December 20, 2019 at Van Wert Health after a brief illness. He was born on October 10, 1966, in Van Wert, to Jerry Goins and the late Judy (Hines) Goins.

Jeff was a Navy veteran, having served in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Raised in Scott, Jeff lived many places across the United States, coming back to the Van Wert area four years ago. He worked with H. E. Orr Company in Paulding as an electrician.

Jeff was a Harley riding, dart playing, Sci-Fi nerd at heart who loved Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica and Elvis.

He is survived by his daughter, Autumn (Abe) Abrahamson and their son, Tormund of Hunter ND; fiancee, Sheri McMinn of Van Wert; father, Jerry Goins of Haviland; brothers: Jerry "JD" Goins and Joe Goins, both of Scott; as well as multiple grandchildren.

Jeff also played a vital role in many others' lives as a second father, grandfather, friend and mentor.

In addition to his mother, Jeff was preceded in death by sisters: Shelly and Julia Goins; and stepmother, Carolyn Goins.

A celebration of Jeffs's life will be held at 3PM Friday, December 27, 2019 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home 722 S. Washington St. Van Wert, OH 45891 with military honors rendered by the combined units of Van Wert VFW and American Legion to follow. Interment in Ridge Cemetery will be private.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 1 to 3 pm, Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff`s memory may be sent to American Legion Isaac Van Wert Post 178, or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
