John Schaffner

November 30, 1922 — February 6, 2011

CONVOY, Ohio - John Schaffner, 88, Convoy, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice, Van Wert.

He was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Doris (Peisert) Schaffner and John W. Schaffner. He married Glenda Rauch on Jan. 24, 1941. She died April 30, 1983.

Survivors include his children: Terry (Karen) Schaffner of Dunwoody, Ga., Carolyn (Bob) Todd of Nashport, Ohio, Jo (Jeff) Gold of Cookeville, Tenn., and Tom (Deb) Schaffner of Van Wert, his grandchildren: Kim (Juston) Wickham of Cambridge, Ohio, Dusty (Angela) Schaffner of Decatur, Ga., Erin Schaffner of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Melissa (Arthur) Goldsipe of Arlington, Mass., Danny (Nicole) Gold of Denver, Colo., Adam Schaffner and Eric (Leah) Schaffner of Columbus, Ohio, and great-grandchildren: Carlson and Caleb Schaffner of Decatur, Ga.

He was preceded in death by one child, Marilyn Schaffner; a brother, Leonard Schaffner; a sister, Florence Etzler, and one grandson, Andrew Jason Schaffner.

He had been a farmer and retired from International Harvester after 30 years of service. John formerly drove for the American Red Cross and was a past member of the Convoy Lions Club, Pleasant Grange and Van Wert County Farm Bureau. He is a member of the Knight Pride Club and enjoyed attending all Crestview Knight sporting events, hanging out with friends at local restaurants, walking and playing cards.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Preferred memorials are Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center or Sugar Ridge Church of God or Van Wert Chapter of the American Red Cross.
