John R. Taylor, 84, of Rockford, died Wednesday, May 8, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 20, 1935, in Cavett, Ohio, to Aaron V. and Olinda Mae (Lehman) Taylor. He was a graduate of the Convoy Class of 1953. On July 21, 1979, John married Nancy J. Wierwille, and she survives in Rockford. John was a farmer his entire life, and also drove truck. He loved farming, and after retirement, he enjoyed doing woodworking. He liked reading, and watching war movies and NASCAR on television. He liked jumping on one of the kids’ motorcycles and taking a ride too! When his work schedule permitted, he would catch a ball game being played by one of the grandchildren. His family was very important to him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Deborah K. (Rick) Temple of Rockford; Timothy J. (Ronda) Taylor of Lexington, Tennessee; Matthew A. (Sheri) Taylor of Van Wert.; and three step-children: Jennifer L. (David) Coleman of Sykesville, Maryland; Kimberly Diane (Doug) Hoit of Middletown; and Gregory W. (Janean) Steinecker, of Van Wert. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren: Aaron “Bubba” (Courtney) Temple, Troy (Jessica) Temple, Jason (Monica) Temple, Joel (Ashley) Temple, Alanna, Grant, Jayden, and Brandt Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren: Kayla (Michael) Houts; McKenna, Gracyn, Emmery, Liberty, Lyric and Porter Temple; and Ava, Ethan, and Jenna Pond, ; 2 great-great grandchildren: Weston and Blaine Houts ; 10 step-grandchildren: Emily (Zach) Proffit, Allison, Faith, and Ethan Coleman; Kateri and Lydia Steinecker, Samantha Hoit, Carrie Jordan, and Daniel Hoit; One sister, Muriel Griffis of Maumee, Ohio, also survives. Deceased is one grandchild, Ryan Temple, 2 brothers, Searle and Eugene Taylor, and 1 sister, Vada Van Wormer.
Services for John will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Ken Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. up until the time of the services.
