Joseph E. "Joe" Osenga, 89, of Cloverdale, died at 1:51 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Van Wert County Hospital. He was born April 3, 1927, to the late Treva (Hammons) Osenga and LaVerne Osenga.
His wife, Mildred L. (Thatcher) Osenga, died July 11, 2013.
Survivors include children, Kim (Pam) Osenga and Scot (Marcia) Osenga, both of Van Wert, daughter-in-law, Sue Osenga of Ft. Jennings, and six grandchildren, Brent (Bethann) Osenga, Hollie (Benjamin) Wolf, Bryan (Pam) Osenga, Heather (Darren) Wainscott, Adam (Amanda) Osenga, and Andrew "A.J." (Laura Longstreth) Osenga. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Osenga; a stepson, Dennis Pollock; a sister, Mary Wooten, and a great-grandson, Thomas J. Osenga.
He was a retired journeyman from Obitron in Delphos, Ohio, and had also worked at Superior Coach in Lima, Ohio.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WW II and the Korean Conflict, a member and Past Commander of the Ottoville V.F.W., member of Ft. Jennings American Legion, 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, former Boy Scout leader and former pilot.
Service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Gus Christo-Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio. Military graveside services will be conducted by combined units of the Van Wert VFW and American legion post.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Alzheimer's Association.
