Judy Kay Garwood, 63, of Holgate, Ohio, formerly of Willshire, died on Wednesday morning, September 25, 2013, at her fiance's home in Liberty Center, Ohio. She was born August 1, 1950, to Harold D. and Helen Louise (Landwehr) Garwood, in Celina, Ohio. She lived in Willshire until 1992, when she moved to Holgate, Ohio, after her marriage She had worked in Decatur, Indiana, at General Electric for approximately 20 years before moving to Holgate. Up until the present, she was employed by the city of Defiance, where she was the administrative assistant.
She graduated from Parkway High School in 1968, and then went on to graduate with an associate degree in accounting from Northwest State Community College in Archibold, Ohio, in 1999. She was a member of the Harvest Life Fellowship Church in Defiance and an American Legion Auxillary member in Hamler, Ohio. She was an avid bowler and had been a member of numerous teams in Decatur and Holgate. She was a very accomplished seamstress and an avid traveler. She had traveled throughout the United States, including both Alaska and Hawaii, and Europe. She loved seeing the world and especially loved going on cruises. She enjoyed the companionship of her children, grandchildren, and all her friends while traveling with them. She also enjoyed dancing and listening to the polka.
Surviving are four children: two sons, Paul (Tara) May of Rockford and Chris (Dawn) May of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Casey (Jared) Linn, Greenwood, Indiana and April (Cory) Erford, of Deshler, Ohio; one brother, James (Peggy) Garwood, Ashland City, Tennessee, one sister, Joan (Lindain) Brehm, Celina, Ohio, one step-sister, Laura (Musa) Adel, Jacksonville, Florida, her step father, Norman Fleming, of Rockford, and her fiance, Steve Collins, of Liberty Center, Ohio.
Memorials may be directed to the Hamler American Legion or the American Legion of the donor's choice. Judy was very active with the legion and the auxiliary and believed in this country and all the men and women who sacrificed for it.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Tim Hacker officiating. Burial will follow in Willshire Cemetery, Willshire, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-8 p.m., and on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m.
