Julia Mildred Evans Ross died on the morning of Aug. 22, 2015.
Julia was born in a log cabin (according to Bowen, but always denied by Julia) near Haviland, Ohio, on Jan. 2, 1922, to Bowen M. and Mildred R. (Crone) Evans, and was the oldest of three sisters: Mary Davis, Lima, Ohio, and Grace Danison, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Surprise, Arizona.
Julia graduated from Grover Hill High School in 1939, and married Paul S. Ross on Jan. 2, 1942, in Venedocia, Ohio.
Many summers between 1953 and 2000, she lived on Little Long Lake near Camden, Michigan. She has resided in Sarasota, Florida, for the past 39 years. In the years after Paul died, Julia enjoyed adventure and travel, making sure her children were exposed to many of life's experiences... camping, baseball, and different cultures. Julia Ross had an unbounded affinity for both Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball great, LeBron James. Along with a kind heart and independent spirit, she had a passion for fried chicken, ice cream, and breakfast.
Julia and Paul had four children: Judy of Glendale, Arizona, Richard (Nadine) of Columbus, Ohio, David (Iris) of Davie, Florida, and Jim (Kathy) of Burke, Virginia; three grandchildren; one adopted grandchild, and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory at 722 S. Washington St., Van Wert, Ohio, on Friday, Aug. 28 from 9-11 a.m. Interment will be held in the Mount Zion Cemetery northeast of Grover Hill, Ohio, immediately following the visitation.
